After breakfast we will take a short ride from Hvar to the starting point of our hiking route. Great day awaits us – we’ll meet a local lavender producer, spend some time with him to hear interesting facts about the origins and production of lavender in these parts. The hike encompasses two villages of which Velo Grablje is the first on our route – it was founded five hundred years ago when Hvar’s patricians and nobles sought refuge in the hills during the epic rise of the disempowered plebeians. Nowadays there’s only a few inhabitants in the village throughout the year except when they gather for lavender festival during the harvest, distillation and celebrating the villages’ saints. Then we hike down the canyon to get to Malo Grablje – little village abandoned in the fifties of the last century due to hardships of life. Nevertheless when walking its alleys between the houses that once where bursting with family life and now reclaimed by vegetation you can almost imagine and hear children’s play or adults talking about the quality of the olive oil they’d just made. Next we will have a simple but delicious lunch in a special ambience of perhaps the most authentic island’s tavern right there in Malo Grablje .

It is built around a small bay and on the hills mildly rising behind it. From the 3rd century B. C. until our days, Lumbarda has firmly grown its precious wines from sandy soil in the heart of the village, surrounded by the sea from the north and south and enjoying more than 2700 hours of sunlight throughout the year (avg 7.4 hrs/day). GRK (white wine) and Plavac Mali (red wine), both embraced this unique region and its particular conditions.
