Self-guided cycling tour: 6 days island hopping

Spend a day in Split, with historical sites dating back to 300 A.C. Discover stone quarries, ancient villages and coastal roads of island Brac, and spend the time on the famous Zlatni rat beach in Bol. Enjoy UNESCO world heritage site of Stari Grad plain and bike along lavender fields to reach famous and fancy town of Hvar.

DAY 1 Split
Explore 1700 years old Palace of Diocletian, inscribed into UNESCO World heritage list, the Peristyle, Diocletian’s mausoleum, Jupiter’s temple, experience every day’s life, ancient fish market and fishermen… Cycle along the beautiful hill Marjan, main recreational venue for the citizens of Split.

DAY 2 Ancient inland towns of Brac – West side loop
After a leisurely ferry cruise you arrive to Brac- the third largest among the Adriatic islands. Pedal to Sutivan, a fishermen settlement on the northern coast of Brac. After Sutivan there is a climb and you pass through the picturesque village of Lozisca. Continue through the settlements in the interior, which are much more interesting architecturally than the coastal ones. Passing through Nerezisca and Donji Humac, just before the last downhill to Supetar, we suggest a break for traditional Mediterranean lunch. If you want to extend your ride go for a coffee in Milna village, see the beautiful naturally protected bay full of boats, yachts…

DAY 3 Coastal riding along east side of Brac
Today we suggest a ride to the east side of the island. Ride to Splitska, following a quieter road along the scenic north-east coast. You’ll have views across to the mainland throughout the ride. Stop in the town of Skrip, the oldest settlement on the island. After the visit to The Island Museum, pedal to Postira, fishermen village and Lovrecina, sandy beach with ruins of a large early Christian basilica assigned to the 5th century. Continue to Pucisca, charming little town, well know for its stone quarries from where is cut its precious white stone which was used to build Diocletian’s Palace in Split and The White House in Washington.

DAY 4 Vidova Gora, Bol and Zlatni rat beach
Your route and goal today is to reach the island’s summit, Vidova Gora (778 meters) -the highest peak of all Adriatic islands from where you will have a breathless view on the slopes of the south side of the island, the town of Bol and the famous beach Golden Cape (Zlatni rat). If you don’t feel like riding to highest point of the island, continue with biking to Gornji Humac, where you should try some of original islands specialties, before having a great downhill to Bol, the oldest coastal town on the island Brac.

DAY 5
Today you take a privately owned boat to cross the Hvar channel to fishermen’s village of Jelsa, island Hvar. You will be riding along the scenic and mostly flat road on the north side of the island, and passing Jelsa, Vrboska, reach Stari Grad – the oldest settlement on the island. After a few warm up miles, a challenging uphill climb waits for you, passing rosemary and lavender fields and ancient Greek walls. Enjoy the beautiful view from the top of the island before a great downhill to Hvar. Overnight in Hvar town.

DAY 6 End of bike tour in town Hvar
Today your tour ends in town Hvar. We highly recommend extending your stay in Hvar, relaxing in the beautiful Venetian style piazza or take some adventure trips like sea kayaking, sailing to nearby islands…
